Documentary Short Film

Documentary video is a form of storytelling in which the story is created after the footage is attained. The story is shaped, molded, and crafted for impact – or at least it should be.
We are intrigued by the stories others have to tell, and often we are surprised to find that seemingly everyday people have stories to tell that can intrigue us and capture our hearts.

Gathering

This short film links the artistic process of creating paintings based on experiences, paired with video from the experience itself. The film explores the function of memory as a part of our experiences, and the artistic translation of those experiences into memory, through video, photo, and painting.
The subject of the film is not interviewed in the film. Instead, we see from her point of view, as others narrate the experiences she is documenting.

Tress – A Silent Documentary

Tress came from a photography project I did with my own hair, and realizing that women’s hair is personal, societal, symbolic, and emotional.
I wanted to explore how the symbolism of our hair, and the ways we are perceived because of it, affect our own self image.
We are too often defined by whether our hair is messy, flat, damaged, extended, braided, loose, long, short, or hidden altogether.

541: Safe Spaces for All

541 is a cafe that believes everyone deserves access to good food. They give people the opportunity to help someone else pay for their meal by “buying buttons”. Each button is worth $1, and anyone can use up to 5 buttons a day from the button jar to buy whatever they would like from the menu.

They believe there is dignity in choice, and that eating together fosters a diverse community of belonging around the table.
